In Roman Ephesus, fashion reflected the general trends of the Roman Empire. Citizens wore togas, stoles, and tunics made of wool, linen, and imported silk. The wealthy adorned themselves ostentatiously with fine fabrics and ornate jewelry, often imported from distant parts of the empire. Fashion also had a religious dimension, and certain garments were worn during rituals or festivals dedicated to Artemis.
