The Bees of Artemis
Like her name meaning 'life', Zoi was full of life. She had a face as bright as the moon and eyes that radiated light. It had only been a few days since Zoi, the daughter of one of Ephesus's wealthiest families, left her beautiful home. She was now one of the revered priestesses of the virgin goddess of the Moon, Artemis, who was the protector of nature, cities, all living generations, and civilization. In the morning hours, she took the title of 'bee' by swearing in the presence of Goddess Artemis that she would always remain loyal to her and preserve her virginity for life. Yes, she was now a 'bee'. Just like real bees that make honey from the essence of flowers in nature, she was a precious daughter of the Ephesian Goddess Artemis.
After the oath ceremony, the beautiful Zoi was seized by a strange feeling. The world she knew and recognized was fading, and shadows of a different realm seemed to be circulating around her. Filled with these feelings, she stepped out into the temple garden and began to walk. The trees appeared greener and more vibrant to her than before. The grasses and flowers swaying in the wind seemed to talk. Mesmerized by this vivid picture of nature, Zoi saw two bees flying in the air with a buzzing sound and involuntarily followed them. The bees flew slowly as if waiting for Zoi to catch up with them.
When the two bees stopped in front of an ancient plane tree, Zoi saw a woman's face on the tree trunk. It was unbelievable, but this face resembled the face of the Artemis statue in the temple. Drawn towards the Artemis face on the tree, accompanied by the buzzing of bees, Zoi approached it involuntarily. Just as she reached the base of the tree, the face split into two and transformed into a large door. Without thinking, Zoi passed through the door and walked into the unknown. In this new realm, Zoi found herself in a garden too. However, this garden was different. The trees resembled graceful women with slender branches and fresh leaves that extended like waves of hair. Yellow clouds hovered above them. As Zoi looked closely, she realized these yellow clouds were made up of bees. Before she had the chance to feel afraid, she found herself face to face with the suddenly appearing Goddess Artemis. Artemis was astonishingly beautiful, and her gaze radiated light like the moon illuminating the darkest hours of the night. When Artemis began to speak, Zoi felt as though she was listening to the most beautiful song she had ever heard.
"I love you very much, Zoi. You are truly a bee. Within you is the power of creation and infinite love of nature. I now want you to live on this side of the tree with me and my favorite bees. Would you like that?"
As Artemis spoke, the trees in the garden surrounded Zoi. Only then did Zoi realize they were not trees but Artemis's most cherished priestesses. Meanwhile, Artemis was looking at Zoi's face, waiting for an answer.
"Of course, I would stay, my Goddess," Zoi said. "I would be honored."
After this response, the door that brought Zoi to this different realm closed, and the face on the tree disappeared. Zoi then remained forever in the sacred garden of Goddess Artemis.
Hours later, the priests and priestesses of the Artemis temple found Zoi's lifeless body in front of the tree. The face stung by the bees was still very beautiful. Unaware that Zoi was in another realm and with Artemis, the priests and priestesses cried aloud for her
