Ephesus was famous for its magnificent structures, such as the Temple of Artemis, one of the largest and most ornate temples in the ancient world. Roman influence was evident in the monumental public buildings that also served as cultural centers, such as the Library of Celsus. The city theater, an example of Roman engineering skill, was one of the largest in the Roman Empire. The city's complex urban planning, with features such as paved roads, aqueducts, and baths, demonstrated the integration of Roman infrastructure into the Hellenistic core.
